چکیده
Gastric cancer with protein-losing gastroenteropathy is relatively rare worldwide. The most important problem for the treatment of these patients is their low nutritional status and protein level, which can cause severe postoperative complications. We report a 49-year-old Japanese female with a large gastric tumor and protein-losing gastroenteropathy successfully treated with neoadjuvant TS-1 combined with CDDP therapy. She had a type 5 tumor with partially cauliflower-like appearance. Her blood chemistry revealed low serum total protein (3.3 g/dl) and low albumin (1.7 g/dl). She was additionally diagnosed with protein-losing gastroenteropathy based on (99m)Tc-human serum albumin scintigraphy. Initial neoadjuvant chemotherapy decreased the size of the tumor and led to a marked improvement in her serum protein levels. She then underwent a total gastrectomy and lymph node dissection (D2) with a combined resection of the spleen and gallbladder. Therefore, neoadjuvant chemotherapy may provide a safe treatment before definitive surgery for gastric cancer with protein-losing gastroenteropathy.

Dissection axillary lymph node count in patient with breast cancer followed by neoadjuvant therapy
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second cause of death in women. It is essential to have the highest level of confidence in axillary staging assessment. Many surgeons and pathologists believe that fewer lymph nodes are present in axillary dissection specimens of women treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to compare the lym...
متن کاملA complete response to S-1 plus cis-diamminedichloroplatinum in advanced-stage esophageal and gastric adenocarcinoma: a case report
BACKGROUND Complete remission from advanced-stage synchronous double primary (SDP) esophageal and gastric adenocarcinoma by chemotherapy alone is rare. We report a case of advanced-stage SDP esophageal and gastric adenocarcinoma in which a complete response to treatment was obtained with S-1 and cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP). CASE PRESENTATION The patient was a 74-year-old man referred ...
متن کاملPhase I study of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy consisting of S-1 and cisplatin for patients with resectable advanced gastric cancer (KOGC-01).
BACKGROUND The prognosis for advanced gastric cancer is poor, with surgery as the only treatment for resectable advanced gastric cancer. Therefore, treatment options that might improve the prognosis are needed. To that end, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy with S-1 and cisplatin (CDDP) was investigated. PATIENTS AND METHODS The chemotherapy schedule included one cycle repeated after 6 weeks. S-1...
متن کاملComplete Response Obtained with S-1 Plus CDDP Therapy in a Patient with Multiple Liver Metastases from Gastric Cancer.
A 58-year-old woman with advanced gastric cancer underwent total gastrectomy in May 2012. The histological diagnosis was poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, cT4a (SE), pN1, cM0; fStage IIIA. Chemotherapy by S-1 was started after surgery. Six months after the operation, two metastatic nodules were noticed on the liver. Therefore, the chemotherapy was switched to S-1 plus cisplatin (CDDP) in No...
متن کاملClinical significance of the gene expression profile in residual tumor cells after neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy for esophageal cancer.
Recurrence after neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery is high in patients with esophageal cancer. No standard second line therapy is currently available for patients with recurrence. This study aimed to evaluate the expression of chemo-radiosensitive genes after neoadjuvant CRT in residual tumor cells. Thirteen patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma underwent 5-flu...
